Tour De France Meeting For Local Business Owners

The Tour de France pages on the CDC website have now been updated for all the information you may need for planning your business activities over weekend. There is also a helpful "Tour de France - Information for Businesses" page. Templates to help with business contingency planning that Matt Robinson (North Yorkshire – Emergency Planning) distributed at the meeting, can also be downloaded from this page.

Your email can be added to the CDC database for the monthly newsletter "On the Route" for regular updates from the website www.cravendc.gov.uk/letour.

Local business owners and managers are invited to attend a meeting on Tuesday 28th January at 6 p.m. in Skipton Town Hall to learn more about the many business opportunities the Tour de France will bring to local enterprises.

The overall impact of the Grand Depart on Yorkshire’s economy is estimated to be more than £100 million. Therefore Skipton Chamber of Trade & Commerce, Craven District Council and Skipton Town Council are encouraging businesses to plan ahead and make the most of the passing of the world’s greatest cycling race through Craven.

Business opportunities

“We are expecting large numbers of visitors to come to Skipton during the Tour de France weekend. We want businesses to think about how they can capitalise on this great event,” explains Chris Harbron of Skipton Town Council.” Amanda Casey of the Skipton Chamber of Trade & Commerce adds: “This is not just a one-off chance to generate extra income. If we get it right, the Skipton economy will benefit for years to come.” Simon Myers, Craven District Council Lead Member for Tour de France, points out: “The big screens with live coverage of the event on the High Street and the Canal Basin will keep visitors in Skipton during the entire weekend. We want to help businesses to make the best of this opportunity.”

- Practical information for businesses about race day logistics and the impact on trade.
- Opportunities for businesses to become involved in the lead up and the legacy of this great event.
- Question and answer session.

The meeting will be hosted by representatives of the Skipton Chamber of Commerce, Craven District Council and Skipton Town Council. In addition, David Shields of Welcome to Yorkshire, Inspector Will Scarlett of North Yorkshire Police and Emergency Planning Officer Matt Robinson of North Yorkshire County Council will address specific issues and answer any questions attendees may have.
